Life is surely full of little surprises, and for the Brown family, it came to them in the presence of 3-year-old Michael. Back in February 2015, Michael was introduced to his third foster family, but little did he know that the Browns would soon become his permanent family.
The single mother of two, Tara Montgomery mentioned that she initially did not plan on adopting Michael. “As a single parent, I was not looking to adopt, [but] just to help kids during transition”. On the first few months with his new foster family, Michael remained apprehensive and anxious. He was often very shy and would cry a lot which is typical for a child who may feel lost and unable to find his place.
After a failed reunion with his birth mother which ended in complete severance, Michael’s case plan changed. That is when Montgomery mentioned that she felt his adoption was “meant to be”. Within a year and a half, Michael grew warm and comfortable around his new family. His 17-year-old adoptive sister Dezhianna Brown says, “He’s a lot more outgoing now and you can now see the personality in him” and “His last name was already Brown so we knew it was meant to be”.
Everyone at the courthouse shared Michael’s enthusiasm over getting legally adopted. The overwhelming bliss felt by the child clearly resonated on photos that were tweeted by her adoptive sister Dezhianna. On one of the photos with her adoptive sisters, Michael can be seen holding a board that says “Some things are worth the wait. 832 days in foster care. Today, I’m adopted.” An understatement of what Michael had to go through before finding his forever-home and the immeasurable happiness of finally having a loving family that he can call his own.

Dezhianna adds, “He was so excited on the day. I don’t think he truly understood what being adopted meant. He just knew he was being adopted.” The said tweet has received a positive buzz on Twitter with more than 48,000 retweets, 122,000 likes, and an overflowing number of positive and inspiring messages from netizens. With most of them expressing optimism and even crying at how moving Michael’s story is.
Some people’s comments veered at Michael’s striking resemblance with his adoptive sisters and a few people even asked if they are sure that Michael is not their long lost brother. Nothing can be more touching than when Michael’s adoptive sister shares a touching moment showing his heartfelt appreciation and love for his new family. Dezhianna says, “Now when he sleeps with me, he’ll roll over in the morning and get super close to my face and say, ‘Dae, I so happy.”
