This photos gives a rare glimpse into the New York City of days gone by. New York nowadays is only associated with the hustle bustle of a big city, noise, people constantly on the move and on a mission and no space for peace, but these pictures show a different side to the city. The black and white pictures depict New York City, or what it used to be at least, with its close to empty streets, an eerie silence and clothes – lines and lines of laundry that connect buildings to poles or other buildings across the street. This New York City of the 1930s seems to be the stark opposite of the New York City we know and love today; there’s a peaceful calm to it, a serenity that’s been captured in the pictures with its endless lines of laundry.
