A Dad’s Frantic Search to Find a Blue Cup for His Autistic Son Goes Viral on Social Media

A dad’s frantic search to replace a sippy blue cup for his autistic son has gone viral on social media. Marc Carter just wanted a little help, but he ended up getting a lot more.

Marc’s son, Ben, has severe autism and became super attached to his little blue cup from Tomme Tippee. He simply won’t drink from any other cup; the problem is that Ben’s cup is now falling apart, and Marc is struggling to find a new one because Tomme Tippee no longer manufactures Ben’s favorite cup.

Mark then took to social media as a last resource to find his son so needed cup, he wrote:

“Ben is 14 and has severe autism, he’s non-verbal and has very limited understanding. Since the age of two he has drunk exclusively from a little blue Tommee Tippee two-handled cup.

Fortunately about three years ago we managed to replace this very old and disintegrating cup with a newer one – cup part first, lid a few weeks later.

No big deal right? We can just get something else! At that age he should be drinking out of a glass!

You’d think eh. Ben hasn’t drunk at school since the age of 5, he doesn’t drink outside of the house so we can’t go anywhere. People say he will drink when he is thirsty, but two emergency trips to A&E with severe dehydration say otherwise.

Theses cups are not made anymore, the replacements are all new and fancy, we’ve tried them, Ben throws them at us. Maybe you have one stuck at the back of a cupboard? It can be used, that’s fine, the one he has doesn’t have long left. In all honesty we are really worried what will happen if it falls apart completely. Can you help us? Marc’s message touched many, and everyone started sharing, it even reached Tommee Tippee. They sympathized with Marc’s cause and created a workforce to look for an old blue cup in their stock. Sarah Scott, global head of consumer experience, said:

“The cup he previously had was a Tommee Tippee cup that we made for Boots in the late 1990s and our team is currently looking through all our archive product samples to see if we have one that’s just right for Ben.”

Mark is so happy with the kind and supportive response from people across the globe, all getting together to help him find as many sippy cups as possible. He later tweeted that he had received 7 cups from complete strangers that didn’t mind paying for package and postage. And there are more on the way.

The support has been amazing he added; he never thought that asking for a little blue cup would touch so many people, and he still can’t believe how many have got in touch with heartwarming messages to his family.
